Getty Images to Restore Thousands of Historic Images from DSU’s Archives and Offer Global Licensing

**DOVER, Del.** – Delaware State University (DSU), one of the nation’s premier Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), has embarked on a groundbreaking journey to preserve and share its storied legacy with the world. In a landmark partnership with Getty Images, a global leader in visual content, DSU is set to enhance its archival digitization efforts, dramatically expanding the reach and impact of its rich history.

This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for DSU, transforming its ability to chronicle its evolution from its founding in 1891 as Delaware’s only HBCU to its current status as a beacon of higher education and cultural influence. With Getty Images’ expertise, DSU’s archives will now be meticulously restored and digitized, ensuring that the extraordinary narratives of its past are preserved and made accessible for future generations.

The history encapsulated within DSU’s archives includes the remarkable journeys of its alumni, such as Steve Ewing, a prominent Ford automobile franchisee; Emmy-winning journalist Cathleen Trigg-Jones; celebrated actor Aaron D. Spears; Grammy-winning artist SZA; acclaimed filmmaker Eric Dickens; and NFL legend John Taylor, among others. The university has also welcomed esteemed figures like President Joe Biden, civil rights icon Jesse Jackson, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, business titan Calvin Butler, Washington Post’s former publisher Don Graham, Grammy-winning singer John Legend, and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.

Getty Images will finance the restoration of thousands of historical images from DSU’s archives through the HBCU Photo Archive Grants Program, funded by the Getty Family and Stand Together. These revitalized images will be available for licensing worldwide via Getty Images’ extensive distribution platform, broadening the scope of DSU’s influence and cultural contributions.

The digitization process is supported by Getty Images’ esteemed partner, Epson America, Inc., which has donated an advanced Expression 13000XL scanner and software to aid DSU’s archival efforts. Adnet Global, another key partner specializing in the digitalization and restoration of historical visual libraries, will ensure DSU’s images are meticulously cataloged with enriched metadata, enhancing their discoverability on Getty Images’ platform.
