The selected student will serve as a non-voting member of the Board, representing the student perspective on educational matters. Applicants demonstrating a dedication to enhancing education quality in Delaware will receive priority consideration.

Shawn Brittingham, President of the State Board of Education, emphasized the importance of incorporating a youth perspective into the Board’s discussions and decision-making processes. The student seat, established by legislation in 2018, aims to provide valuable insight into policies and programs affecting students statewide.

The Board holds regular monthly meetings open to the public, typically scheduled for the third Thursday evening of each month, with locations rotating across the three counties.
