DIAA 2022 Winter Championship Sites Announcement

February 14, 2022

Dover, DE (February 14, 2022) – Sites have been announced for the upcoming Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) winter sports championships for indoor track, individual wrestling, swimming and diving, boys and girls basketball, and unified basketball.

The DIAA Indoor Track Championship will be held this Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The 2021 indoor track championship was held at Dover High School as a polar bear meet, due to the COVID-19 health pandemic. Originally, the 2022 DIAA indoor track championship was planned to return to Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex (Landover, MD) for the first time since 2020, but in December 2021, DIAA was made aware that the facility would no longer be available to host track meets. DIAA diligently sought adequate venues for the 2022 indoor track championship meet that met DIAA’s requirements for hosting. Facilities with restrictive COVID-19 policies were eliminated as possible venues, while other inhibitive factors such as travel distance and available meet dates narrowed the list of possible venues considerably. The 2022 indoor track championship at UMES will be a no spectator event due to a lack of spectator seating and other facility occupancy restrictions that the meet will be held under. The DIAA Track Committee opted to hold the event at an indoor track, rather than host another “polar bear” meet which could prove risky to rely on favorable and safe outdoor conditions in February. The DIAA 2022 Indoor Track Championship meet will be streamed live on NFHSNetwork.

For more meet information, visit the DIAA Indoor Track page.

The DIAA Swimming and Diving Championships will return to the University of Delaware for the first time since 2020. The 2021 championship meet was held at Sussex Academy due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wednesday, February 23 – 6:00 pm Boys Swimming Preliminaries

Thursday, February 24 – 6:00 pm Girls Swimming Preliminaries

The University of Delaware has developed a digital system to allow external visitors to upload their COVID-19 vaccination or negative PCR COVID-19 test results before attending a UD-sponsored event. The Visitor Events Health Pass [r20.rs6.net] replaces the need for visitors to show paper copies or photo images of vaccination or test records when entering an event. The pass is integrated with the online UD Daily Health Check. To expedite event entry, fans should visit covidcheck.udel.edu [r20.rs6.net] in advance of event day and upload their proof of vaccine or negative test to the Visitor Events Health Pass, fill out the UD Daily Health Check on the day of the game, and show your green event ticket at the gate for entry. Fans wishing to show paper copies or photo images of vaccination or test records can still do so, in combination with a green checkmark from the UD Daily Health Check for entry at the event.

Tickets for each swimming session will cost $10.00. The meet will be live-streamed on NFHSNetwork [r20.rs6.net] for fans to watch live. [r20.rs6.net]
