County Executive Meyer announces New Castle County Scholarship awardees

Wilmington, DE – In an in-person at Rockwood Park, New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer along with the New Castle County Scholarship Committee announced the winners of the 2021 New Castle County Scholarship. The group awarded 81 scholarships totaling more than $100,000 to New Castle County residents who are graduating seniors, continuing education or adult learner scholars. The awards range from $500 to $3,000. More than 200 students submitted applications for the 2021 New Castle County Scholarship.

“On behalf of the scholarship committee, we are pleased to be able to provide these scholarships to the hard-working applicants of New Castle County,” said County Executive Matt Meyer. “These students’ stories and academic achievements are remarkable and we’re proud to reward them for their very hard work. I wish them continued success in their academic career.”

Winners are chosen by the selection committee. They are Arron Bass, CEO, East Side Charter, Sarah Olsavsky, Vice President, Delcastle Tech High School, Taylor Johnson, Teacher, Positive Change Academy, and Natalie Torres, Inclusion and Diversity Manager, Christiana Care.

To be eligible, students must reside in New Castle County (including the City of Wilmington or other municipalities), must demonstrate financial need through the following documents (FAFSA student aid report, W2, pay stubs, benefits verification letter or statement), must be pursuing or currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary undergraduate degree, or a graduating senior who has been accepted to attend an accredited post-secondary degree program starting in Fall, 2021 and must participate in an interview by an independent board who will select the winners. Family members (of the applicant) who are also enrolled in post-secondary degree programs are encouraged to apply.
