Delaware Affordable Housing Group Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for McMullen Square Construction Project

The Delaware Affordable Housing Group (DAHG) hosted its groundbreaking ceremony for its newest townhomes, McMullen Square, on December 7, 2023. The 17 new 3-story townhomes at McMullen Square will include 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths with a covered deck. The townhomes will include both one and two-car garage options and homebuyers will be able to customize their home amenities.
“This project represents DAHG’s most ambitious building project to date,” stated Wilmington Housing Authority Executive Director, Ray Fitzgerald. “We are excited to have the opportunity to complete this project and for all the support received from the community. This homeownership development project will be key to DAHG’s efforts to increase housing options for residents of Wilmington.”
DAHG acquired the land from the Wilmington Neighborhood Conservancy Land Bank (WNCLB). The new development project will address the growing demand for homeownership, particularly first-time homebuyers, in the City of Wilmington. “The time is ripe for turning a brownfield into a brightfield of homeownership and community stabilization. This project will serve the community’s best interest for years to come,” stated Vincent M. White, Vice President of DAHG.
“The lack of affordable housing is a serious problem affecting not only Wilmington but communities all across this country,” said Mayor Mike Purzycki. “The construction of these beautiful new townhomes by the Delaware Affordable Housing Group and their partners will provide a significant addition to the City’s housing stock and help revive the surrounding community while also providing opportunities for families to become homeowners who are invested in the City’s future. I extend a sincere thank you to the DAHG for their vision and determination, and to the Wilmington Neighborhood Conservancy Land Bank for its crucial support in bringing this project to fruition.”
DAHG partnered with Architectural Alliance, Inc. and The W Real Estate & Development Group, LLC on the project. The three-phase project will begin in January 2024 with Phase I scheduled for completion in the spring of 2024.
Subira Ibrahim, President of 1st District Neighborhood Planning Council stated that “The 1st District Neighborhood Planning Council is thrilled to see that the McMullen Square housing initiative is nearing completion. This has been a long-awaited project. Having worked on this housing development through the Neighborhood Planning Council has been a process for more than a decade, meeting with residents and city representatives to help resolve problems after the former developer was unable to complete the final phases of this townhouse community.
